SEABROOK — William F. Bird, 72, of Seabrook died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Anna Jaques Hospital Newburyport, Mass.
He was born Sept. 23, 1936, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of the late William F. and Loretta F. (Neville) Bird.
Mr. Bird was raised in Andover, Mass., and was a graduate of St. John's Prep and received his bachelor's degree from College of the Holy Cross and his master's degree in education from Lowell State. He was a veteran, serving as a 1st lieutenant with the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his soulmate and best friend, Rosemary Rooney of Seabrook; his children, Kathleen A. Bird, William F. Bird III and Laurie A. Jarek, all of Dracut, Mass., and Christopher R. Nicolopoulos and his wife Kaela of Hampton; four grandchildren; his former wife, Mary E. Bird of Dracut; his sisters, Georgine O'Neil of Chelmsford, Mass., and Barbara Smith of Vernon, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bird taught school for the past 42 years and was most recently teaching fifth grade at the Parker School in Billerica, Mass. The owner of William F. Bird Real Estate in Hampton for many years, he was well known as inviting and charismatic, the possessor of a tireless work ethic, unflagging optimism and quick wit. He will be remembered for his smile, unfailingly crisp dress shirt, tie and sport coat.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will follow in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
