2010 Good Neighbor: Dee Bittle

Concord Realtor Dee Bittle of Century 21 Circa 72 is the 2010 recipient of the New Hampshire Association of Realtors Good Neighbor Award for her work with the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, which provides for those in need in roughly 20 communities in greater Concord.

The formal announcement of the award came on Sept. 20 during a ceremony at the St. Peter’s Church Parish Center, where NHAR President Monika McGillicuddy honored Bittle with a custom-designed Good Neighbor pin and crystal award. She then presented Bittle with a $1,000 check for the food pantry, which will go directly to purchasing food items for the roughly 300 families served by the organization.

McGillicuddy cited Bittle’s dedication not only in helping to prepare and deliver boxes of food items for client families and her own personal donations, but also as a prime mover in getting the food pantry ministry involved in the BON-TON Community Day program, through which hundreds of dollars of donations come to the food pantry twice a year.

“And it is not only the work that Dee puts in, but the attitude that she brings to her volunteerism that sets her apart,” McGillicuddy said. “Her charity to others is exceeded only by her good nature.”

In addition to her work at the food pantry, Bittle has been an active volunteer for such organizations as the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Autism Speaks and Breast Cancer Awareness, and she also serves as a Eucharistic minister at Concord Hospital.

“She seems to understand and can almost feel another person in need,” said Paula McLeer, a friend and co-worker of Bittle’s. “If all of my friends, colleagues and neighbors were as wonderful and caring as Dee, the world would be a better place for everyone.”

The NH Association of Realtors Good Neighbors program was introduced in 2003 and serves to annually recognize Realtors who make exceptional contributions to improve the quality of life in their communities through volunteerism.
