North Conway Realtor Bernie Friberg of Badger Realty is the 2011 recipient of the New Hampshire Association of Realtors Good Neighbor Award for her work with the Miranda Leavitt Diabetes Fund, dedicated to providing treatment, education and support to individuals with diabeters who are in need of medical services in Carroll County, NH, and Oxford County, Maine.

The formal announcement of the award came on November 17 at the White Mountain Board of REALTORS installation dinner, where NHAR President Tom Riley presented Friberg with a custom-designed Good Neighbor pin and crystal award. He then presented her with a $1,000 check for the Miranda Leavitt Diabetes Fund.

Since she began serving the organization in 2008, Friberg has continued to invest countless hours hosting fundraising campaigns for the Fund, in addition to being one of its most vocal and active champions, and a donor.

In addition to her work with the Miranda Leavitt Diabetes Fund, Friberg gives back to her community in other ways, which speak even more broadly to the kind of person that she is, and the kind of person the Good Neighbor Award represents

One is The Caring Wheel Project, a nonprofit that Friberg started herself over five years ago, by which she donates $50 per closed transaction to a charity of her client’s choice, and in their name.

Another is Calendars For Charity, a nonprofit developed by Friberg four years ago, by which she advertises a photo contest for members of the community, and winning photos are included as part of a calendar which raises money for three local nonprofits, including the Miranda Leavitt Diabetes Fund.

All this from a woman who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma nine years ago. Through her treatment, she continued to work without complaint on numerous nonprofits in the Mt. Washington Valley.

As Riley said during his presentation, "It is not only the work that Bernie puts in, but the attitude that she brings to her volunteerism that makes her the perfect recipient of the Good Neighbor award."
