Soliman 'Sol' Negm, 1935-2010

PORTSMOUTH — Soliman "Sol" Negm, 75, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his home, after a long period of failing health.

Born March 10, 1935, in Alexandria, Egypt, the son of Selim and Helen Negm, he moved to the United States as a young man and served in the U.S. Army.

Sol was an innkeeper and restaurateur, and came to the Seacoast in 1969 to open the Helm Restaurant. He also opened the Matthew Marsh House, Harvest House and Eliot House restaurants. He then went into real estate and operated the Sol Negm Real Estate Company for many years.

He was active with the Seacoast Board of REALTORS in the past, and also served as Board Vice President in 2007.

Sol enjoyed membership in the Warwick Club.

Survivors include his children, Michael Negm and Robert Negm; grandchildren Geoffrey Negm, Matthew Negm and Micheline Labrie; a great grandson, Brayden; his siblings, Paulette Ghaly, Kamal Negm and wife Christel, Magdi Negm and wife Andrea, and Yvette Gamester and husband Richard; one niece and six nephews.
