Moe J. Mozier, well-known REALTOR and Restaurateur, died August 25, 2010, at his home in Alstead, NH, surrounded by family and friends. He was 77. His death came as the result of injuries sustained during a serious cycling accident in Langdon, NH, last month. He was doing what he did best: Living life to the fullest.
Moe was born August 30, 1932, in Boston, the son of Everett and Leona “Betty” (LaRock) Mozier. He was a graduate of Pembroke Academy and the University of New Hampshire, and served in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force. Following UNH, Moe taught fifth grade and coached three sports at a private school in West Newbury, Mass.
He later established an outstanding reputation in the food service industry, operating the food and beverage service at three major Vermont ski areas: Haystack, Mt. Snow, and Stratton Mountain, and he opened the original Holiday Inn in Brattleboro.
Moe began to purchase bankrupt and/or troubled restaurants, revamped and revitalized them, and then sold them. Moe is best known in Keene for his renovation of an historic Main Street property into Henry David's, one of the Monadnock Region's most popular gathering spots. He also served as President of the New Hampshire Lodging and Restaurant Association.
Following the sale of Henry David’s, Moe obtained his Realtor’s license, and for the past 20 years has been a Realtor at RE/MAX Town and Country in Keene. He is in the RE/MAX Hall of Fame, was the 2007 President of the Monadnock Region Board of Realtors, and in 2008 was named “Realtor of the Year.”
Moe was an active member of his community, and had previously served as President of Keene Downtown Development Corp, Vice President of Keene Downtown Housing Corp, Keene Property Association Executive Board Member, Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce and Keene Beautification Committee. Moe maintained an active, athletic lifestyle his entire life and had a deep love for sailing, golfing, tennis, skiing, basketball and scuba diving.
In March,1996, he married Shelley Reindeau in Lake Tahoe, NV. He is survived by his wife Shelley; two children, Kelli Rooney of West Chesterfield, NH, and Michael Mozier of Westminster, VT; three grandchildren, Michael, Catherine and Rachael Rooney of West Chesterfield, NH; his former wife, Angeline (Potash) Mozier; three golden retrievers, Darby, Bodie and Houdini; and an appaloosa horse, Jack.
Moe truly left the world better than he found it. He will be greatly missed by his family and wide circle of friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, at the Monadnock Covenant Church on Base Hill Road in Keene, and a reception will immediately follow at the Keene Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Athletic Program Sports Booster, Chesterfield School, PO Box 205, Chesterfield NH 03443, Attn: Moe Mozier Memorial Fund or the Monadnock Region Humane Society.
